Practices commence twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8PM-10PM in Cois Doire Community Hall, Gorey, Co. Wexford.
Joining the band
Anyone interested in joining the band is more than welcome. Experience is not required as beginners will be taught to play pipes or drums by our capable tutors, John Cullen(bagpipes), Tommy Kavanagh(side drum) and Kiera Finn(tenor drum).
Beginners will first learn the basics. Before playing the bagpipes, beginners learn on what's called a practice chanter. They will be taught the scale, grace notes and embellishments. When they have mastered these they will then move on to exercises, tunes and then a set of pipes. Similarly with side drum and tenor drum, beginners will first learn simple rudiments and beats on a practice pad after which they will move onto drum scores.
